The Colorado People’s Center exists to be a home and a tool for the aspirations of the people in our community.
We want everyone who walks through our doors to feel that this is a place that is made by and belongs to us collectively, to feel familiar and inspiring cues that communicate clearly who this is for.
With limited resources, we have worked with intention to create this sense in our physical space. We painted bright, inviting colors on the walls, hand-built benches to maximize the seating, sourced donated and second-hand furnishings to create ample seating and meeting areas. We hand-detailed a bright, flower-filled childcare room to create a space where parents can bring their kids that the kids are excited to come into.
We have had the honor of hosting renowned muralist Leo Tanguma for our official opening and first months of operation as an artist in residence. The impact of Tanguma’s large murals throughout the space has been immeasurable. The themes of liberation, dignity, redefining identity resonate through bright, bold imagery. Since his residency has ended, we are fortunate to continue hosting many of his pieces on loan or donation, but we have lots of wall space open that we want to fill with intention.
We are seeking pieces from local artists who would like to use their art for the cultivation of dignity, power, and collectivity in our community. We are asking artists to submit specific artworks for consideration that they feel align with this mission and visual identity of the Colorado People’s Center.
Review & selection process:
Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Selected pieces will be displayed throughout the space at the Colorado People’s Center for 6 months.
Selected artists can decide to list the work for sale, or submit it on loan. We will not take a commission on artworks sold — artists will keep 100% of the sale price.
Youth artists are encouraged.
Preference will be given to artists with less access to gallery opportunities.
We are specifically looking for:
2-D artworks (to hang on walls) including but not limited to: paintings, drawings, fabric, photography, collage, or printmaking
With a preference for:
large-scale artworks
framed/finished artworks
